How To Get Involved

Getting involved with Smart Start is easy and can be very fulfilling. There is always a need for volunteers willing to help.

Below are several ways to volunteer with Smart Start:

General

Assist in administrative areas. Duties may include reception/greeting, assisting child care professionals who visit the production area, assisting with mailings, making reminder phone calls, and other duties as assigned.

Assist at special events. Duties may include manning an information booth or table, manning a check in or nametag table, coordinating play activities, performing AV duties, or clean up duties.

Assist in Allocations (seasonal). Duties may include assembly of notebooks, contacting volunteers, set up of meetings, participation on a panel, or other duties as assigned.

Advocacy

Volunteer for Tuesdays for Tots (February through June). Tuesdays for Tots is a scheduled meet and greet of legislators during General Assembly sessions in Raleigh. Duties may include scheduling visits with legislators, coordinating volunteers, and coordinating transportation.

Volunteer for Keep the Promise to NC’s Young Children Day (March or April). Keep the Promise Day is the annual rally to advocate for North Carolina’s young children at the General Assembly in Raleigh. Duties may include coordinating volunteers, securing transportation, assisting with check in, and coordinating reception details, if necessary.

Direct Support to Child Care Facilities

Smart Start of Forsyth County is in the process of creating a system in which local child care facilities receive volunteers via Smart Start to address minor capacity needs they may have within their facility.

Duties within each facility will vary, though may include creating and/or changing display boards, light landscaping work such as mowing, mulching, and planting, participating in learning activities such as storytime (where available), clean up duties, and other duties as assigned.

At Smart Start there is always a myriad of duties and activities available for volunteers. To customize your volunteer experience, contact Smart Start’s Community Outreach division at 725-6011 or ssfc@smartstart-fc.org.
