SSFC is a community advocate for building strong student-practitioner partnerships. Our goal is to provide a quality hands-on learning environment within our center to mutually benefit our mission as well as prospective Ambassador Interns. In reaching out to local learning institutions, we commit to assisting students in earning internship credit pursuant to collegiate degrees and/or gaining valuable real world exposure to the educational, social and human services, public relations, communications, marketing, event planning, evaluations, and fundraising professions while enrolled in accredited institutes. Direct supervision for Ambassador Interns will be provided by experienced and professional staff who are dedicated to the advancing the mission and development of SSFC and future professionals. Administration personnel will work one on one with ambassador interns, ensuring meaningful task execution that is based upon individual interest. At the conclusion of each semester, the administrator will provide a letter and certificate of student achievements and hours served during the internship. It is the responsibility of the educational institution to calculate and grant academic credit to the student.

During your internship, SSFC will provide an environment to enrich your fundamental familiarity of Pre-K education, social and human services, public relations, communications, marketing, and nonprofit organizational development, which will prepare you for your career. Other benefits of our internship include:

  •  Attaining a clear understanding of the structure and functionality of our organization and its relationship with other components of the social services system (i.e., crisis centers, primary and secondary schools, youth serving organizations, welfare agencies, external/ partner nonprofit agencies)
  • An opportunity to observe professional development and apply learned academic theory in an operating, functional setting
  • Active participation in the development of the services, programs, and projects, which afford the rare chance to examine major educational and community concerns
  • Guided professional growth and development via direct interface with teachers, social workers, case managers, and administrative staff

Eligibility

Students seeking an internship with our office must be committed to the full experience. Accordingly, the following criteria must be met.

  • Each candidate must have the eligibility to intern in the U.S.
  • Each prospective Ambassador Intern must complete an application for internship, submit all transcripts, and a letter of recommendation from two credible references, not including a family member
  • Each prospective Ambassador Intern must participate in a personal interview at our office and an orientation on the first day of internship
  • Students must be currently enrolled in a learning institution and seeking credit towards a degree in Education, Sociology, Public Administration, Social Science Research, Psychology, Counseling, Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Development, English or a related discipline
  • Scholars must have a 3.0 GPA or better
  • SSFC will accommodate a mutually beneficial workable schedule. During active school calendar months, scholars must work a minimum of 8 hours per week. During summer months, 10 hours per week are required. Application cycles are for a 12 month period.
  • Students must pass a criminal background check prior to being accepted into the program
  • Students must have reliable transportation

Intern Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations

Interns are expected to perform an array of administrative and quasi-professional tasks, which may include, but are not limited to, preparing correspondences, performing research, gathering and assembling information to support a wide variety of programs or projects, responding to general inquiries, assisting with product presentations and website development, and much more. Students are required to already possess a working knowledge of operating a computer and other general office equipment. Ambassador Internships are unpaid, but the benefits gained from completion are priceless when launching your career as you will be able to demonstrate education AND experience to prospective employers.

SSFC interacts with clientele, families in distress, various professionals, a host of dignitaries, and the general public. Accordingly, Ambassador Interns are expected to remain professional in manner and appearance at all times while in the office environment and when representing our office in public. Business casual is the accepted attire during daily operations. Students should be able to communicate and work effectively on team projects. Ambassador Interns are expected to be self-motivated and actively seek meaningful opportunities to expand their knowledge and experience, and freely ask questions of professional staff when tasks or objectives are unclear.

Public Administration Intern

Assist in providing administrative, and communication support to the CEO, Office, Board of Directors, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Assist in organizing and coordinating outreach and external relations efforts and special projects. Meet program requirements for degree obtainment.

Early Intervention Intern

Assist in improving the quality of early childhood education in Forsyth County by working with the Early Intervention Coordinator (EIC) to provide technical assistance and consultation to early educators, and childcare program administrators, in collaboration with Pre-K partner agencies. Meet program requirements for degree obtainment.

Teaching and Learning Intern

Assist in improving the quality of early childhood education in Forsyth County by working with the Technical and Learning Specialists (TLS) to provide support to early educators, and childcare program administrators. Meet program requirements for degree obtainment.

Community Engagement and Marketing Intern

Assist in providing administrative, and communication support to the Director of Advancement and Community Engagement and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Conducts research for fundraising, funding, assists in organizing and coordinating outreach and external relations efforts, and maintains database input. Ambassadors must also meet program requirements for degree obtainment.
