What is SPARK?

SPARK is an innovative registered apprenticeship program designed to strengthen the early childhood education workforce in Forsyth County. We create debt-free pathways to ECE credentials while building a qualified, stable workforce for local childcare centers.

Who do we serve?

We serve high school students and young adults (18+) interested in early childhood education careers, and childcare centers seeking qualified, committed teaching staff. Our apprentices earn while they learn through structured workplace training and formal education.

Where does SPARK operate?

SPARK operates throughout Forsyth County, North Carolina, with a focus on Place Matters communities. Partner childcare centers provide workplace learning opportunities while apprentices attend classes at Forsyth Tech Community College.

When does the program start?

Our first cohort launches January 2026 with 10 apprentices. The program runs for 2 years, combining up to 4,000 hours of workplace learning with up to 848 hours of related education leading to an Associate degree and CDA credential.

Why partner with SPARK?

Partnering with SPARK helps you develop a pipeline of qualified, committed ECE professionals while addressing the critical workforce shortage.

How do we get started?

Getting started is simple! Contact our Program Coordinator to discuss your center’s needs, capacity, and interest. We’ll work together to develop a partnership that benefits both your center and future ECE professionals.
