SSFC’s MALE Celebrates Participants

Winston-Salem, NC –October 2024– Smart Start of Forsyth County proudly hosted its MALE (MALES Aspiring Long-Term Excellence) Program End-of-Year Celebration, recognizing the accomplishments of fathers and father figures who have made a significant impact in their children’s early development and education throughout the year.

The event, held on September 26, 2024 at Washington Park gathered community leaders, families, and participants to celebrate the fathers who took part in the MALE Initiative, this initiative is designed to empower men with the skills and knowledge to support their children’s growth and learning.

“We are incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the fathers and fathers figures in our program,” said Dr. Louis Finney, CEO of Smart Start of Forsyth County. “This year’s celebration was a testament to the powerful roles fathers can play in their children’s lives. Their hard work and involvement have been inspiring, and we are excited to continue this important work in the future.”

Highlights of the event included:

  • Multiple Speakers that are local activists for fatherhood and community engagement, inspired attendees with words of encouragement and the importance of male involvement in early childhood development.
  • A recognition ceremony where fathers received certificates for their dedication and participation in the program.
  • Family-friendly activities that brought families together and underscored the importance of bonding and involvement in early childhood education.

The MALE Initiative offers fathers and father figures ongoing workshops, financial literacy workshops, workforce development, mentorship opportunities, and a support network aimed at enhancing their role in their children’s education. This year, the initiative focused on literacy, school readiness, and emotional development, ensuring that fathers and father figures had the tools needed to nurture and guide their children.

Looking Ahead
With the success of this year’s initiative, Smart Start of Forsyth County is excited to expand its offerings for fathers and fathers figures. The MALE initiative will continue to grow, with plans for more system change workshops, events, and opportunities for fathers and father figures to engage in their children’s lives.
